I got home 4am from supper, and ironically I'm very hungry.
Had such a good fun time laughing and talking with dear ladies Pang, Ang & Tng that all the supper's digested fine.

But I'm so filled with gladness this friendship has come this far.
We can be ourselves and be heard and loved.
Appreciate every bit of their concern and honesty.

It was a precious time speaking our thoughts out and this is such a precious friendship :- )

I don't think I'm a very ungrateful person.
I give thanks for goodness poured into my life quite frequently.
But I don't do so well when things fall short of the image my mind paints, or believes in.

The mirror, the real reflective one, and the Word, have been showing such an ugly image recently.

It seems that someone rather important living near me left recently, the blanket thingy stretched from Tree #1 to Tree #15. Yet the sounds of mahjong tiles bumping around echo through the night.

Tonight I stood in the bare auditorium reeking of old liquor and past wild nights.

Our voices went, bare and naked, stripped away of the melodious company of all the instruments that we are so used to having, and filled the stale air.

It was rough, but very real, like sincere hearts are.

That started Hope, and that brought us to this place.

Bareness and emptiness give way to endless possibilities and new stories.

Glad I am not just witnessing the sparkling new auditorium to come,

but have a chance to work my hands for a few bricks.

People always treasure what they work for more.

Today I went for the wake of a schoolmate whom I barely exchanged ten sentences with..
Who would have known that 4 years after graduation, we will all meet at such an occasion?
This probably made many of us young dudes realise we really do take for granted the idea of having a whole life ahead.
Ironic how a loss makes one heavier.

I sat listening to his fight the past months.
I heard about his pain, his little joys and his thoughtfulness.
Perhaps when we are driven to a point we have nothing left to care for ourselves, we give selflessly whatever's left.

Sitting on a creaking swing high up, sticking feet out to the sky is ironic, but the perfect way to end a day too low. Realising I am a tiny lump of happy going from point to point makes me realise today is also, but a tiny speck in eternity.

Today is the first day of work.

Greeting of Muji notebook (never mind it's lined), 3 boxes of name cards, a book + all white studio + yummy Indonesian lunch + lots of .ai and fiddling about + put it on the walls! + chats + coffee tasting (part of research!) + "you know, a lil like Inception in a logo?" LOL + very very sleepy.

I know I'm back to reality when hot air blows at my face, people who dress funny bypass me, and that stinky cheque is not finding its way to my mail box :- (

My first day of reality is very sweet though.

Accompanied Nuo bustling around looking for out-of-stock Japanese Yen before she zaps off to awesome Japan in a few hours' time! We shared much and found many coincidences, like how she just saved the print of the lil' badge I got her on her comp, and sermons about adoption. :O
Awaiting your safe return, and many faith-filled stories :- )

I'm serious about filtering out bad thoughts with whaley earlies leh.

We went nuts on our last full day in Melbourne. Spent some time in Central and did some last minute shopping, that involves say, 3kg of abalone macadamia nuts.
Poor Joel had to lug them around.

Tried their Jap food, rather interesting, there's vermicelli and peas with teriyaki chicken, tastes very chinese. Anyway this is the scene that happens before every meal, the cameras snapping away.

Had a lil' detour and stopover at Rose St Artists' Market,

Melbourne's craft scene is very encouraging but it's also very much of:

Hello!
It's Day Five in Melbourne, and I'm sitting here with Heineken and grinning silly after an awesome day,
sharing our Conference thoughts (finally HAHA)

We went on a touristy tour today to Phillip Island, it was really good.

We started at Moolit conservation park, looking at animals Australia treasures

We abandoned our plans to visit the 12 apostles (now left with 7?) because driving 3 hours after a long day of snowboarding (for the rest) was no fun, and opted to go for Puffing Billy.

I was not really for the idea at first, I mean puffing billy?!

It's almost like visiting Thomas and Friends...

But thankfully, the ride proved me wrong.
It's rather nice, sticking yr legs out of the steam train (the whole reason why Philo wanted to go so badly hahaha) and going through breathtaking scenes.

I was too happily indulging in the cool air and Narnia-like forests to snap much.

Stopped by for lunch - lots of chicken salt on fries.

Our visit to Dandenong failed, but I guess that gives another reason to re-visit Melbourne soon ;- )

And in the evening, we visited the exhibition we set our hearts out to visit since arrival-
Tim Burton! He gets his name all over the airport..

It's so cute how they change the museum sign for the exhibition.

I had a feather in my hair for such an important occassion.

It is the best exhibition I've seen.
He's so generous, really exhibiting everything, even a lil note he wrote to Johnny Depp about a certain line he can say in Charlie & the Chocolate Factory, like his sudden inspiration moment.
I wanted to turn to strangers next to me and go "ISN'T THIS SO MOVING!", but yeh decided to look sane... and just indulge in all the creative synergy.
Never mind that we got a parking ticket because of this (suay people go where also suay)...

Midweek, Philo and I slept in later while the rest went off to snowboard.
We cruised down Brunswick street and shopped about.

When the sun goes down and everything closes,
(It's funny seeing how shops run by Asians will always be opened a lil' later)

I went to the opening of Design:Made:Trade at the Royal Exhibition Building a stroll away from where we stay - on my own. We happened to catch Melbourne at the beginning of the Victoria's Design Festival, oh lucky me.

Uhm, well, I wasn't supposed to take photos, and I normally obey exhibition rules, especially when I respect the exhibitioners. But I paid quite a bit for this, so I might as well share.

Everything is made of Art Paper/cardboard, even that awesome igloo.

Every single booth too

I love this corner especially.
It's interactive and explored fun concepts.
There's the funny guy mass-silkscreening postcards at the corner. He was having so many orders he never stopped hahaha

Never mind I was feeling horribly underdressed and rather out of place for the event, I enjoyed looking at every booth. It's interesting to note the craft and design scene in Melbourne cross rather harmoniously.

I like the feeling of strolling in a foreign city on your own, just taking in everything your eyes capture, even the strange "new" smell

Sydney - Food!

I'm in Melbourne now with a net connection at a wonderful Art hotel,
so let's start Sydney back posts with some food!

Every weekday morning was spent dragging our sleepyheads up to breakfast area

at our lil hotel called Darcy's in Homebush.

It's just simple cereal & toast, but I haven't eaten breakfast for so long I was so happy.

All our weekday lunches were spent near Olympic Park since we were in Hillsong Conference (this shall be another post), but this turns out to be the more "Australian" food we had.

We had Vietnamese, Indian, Korean for the dinners,
it's really confusing.

We kind of went around aimlessly the next day, starting with Vic Market,
sadly selling lots of MIC (Made in China) products.
At some points I actually felt I was back in Jilin :|

I love how we see horses around so much. The policemen were riding them around.
There were those horses who wore feathers in their hair, and gave tourists a lil' ride down the road in those carriages.
I think they look really sad.

Stopped by Nandos for lunch.
(They have come to Singapore recently, let you know if it tastes the same.)
That yellow rice-like thing is called Cous Cous, don't. eat. it.
It tastes like little Eclipse mints exploding in your mouth, not really pleasant.

We had a long walk down to Melbourne's "Little Italy", Lygon Street
because Puay was looking for

Meanwhile, we were captivated by Koko Black.

Had a hiccup here, and took way too long to get to Bourke Street, right in time to see all the shops closing.
People say Australia's really laid back, I beg to differ lor, we are forever rushing to catch shops before they close :- (

At least we get good pancakes for dinner, hehe.

So after being in Sydney for a week,
we flew over an hour of clouds,
and reached Melbourne.
Oh joy :- )

We stayed in a really lovely place called
Brooklyn Arts Hotel.
(why it is called Brooklyn when it's in Melbourne I really don't know)

We have breakfast and warm blackcurrant tea here every morning.
I have since been converted into a tea girl.

A corner under the stairs where our kind and rather quirky landlady keeps her stuff.

We also happened to be staying in the district so vibrantly arty - Fitzroy.

Street Art is everywhere.

So we ventured around, and saw funny street signs.
And skipped Chinese food for this strange restaurant

called Stalactites.
Greek Food!

The food's rather interesting, we kind of overdid it with the amount of mutton x_x

And the desserts were wayyy too sweet for me.

We dragged our tired feet a long way back in the cold,
to a pleasant surprise of seeing graphics projected on the facade of our lil' hotel.

It's part of the Gertrude Street Projection Festival, hoho.

Today was a short but awesome catchup with T.

The hardworking employed designers gave the other free "shaking-leg" girls a treat.

After lunch, we found ourselves in the midst of a cosplay fest,

Sunday was spent with the LG, supporting our lil' boy, Scott's team, The Feetwashers, play against "The Hierachy" LOL.

We went to City Square's Saizeriya,
a Japanese chained Italian restaurant that's everywhere (I think I had this in HK)
Alright food, great chicken wings, don't eat the pasta.

It was a very funny friendly match.

And we decided we can't get enough, so we met a few hours later at Huaxiang's for WORLD CUP. (Germany vs England)

two exciting church events that happened a while back:

Serve The World 2010

We had no service that faithful Saturday,
but everyone (700+ youths) was sent all over the island,
to paint, clean, wash, and create betterment for real people :- )

My LG went painting at Bishan Home for the intellectually disabled, revamped their garden walls, while a group of Central people fed and interacted with the residents.

The weather was challenging to work in-
rain one moment, scorching sun the next.

Poor moth got trapped in the wet paint,
so we all took a break and rescued it, it flew away fine.

I like paint, even when I get it all over myself hahaha

So yesterday I caught Shrek- Forever After with the lg because Moooooo gave us free tickets.
I cannot express how glad animation clips make my heart feel, just really glad :- )

just a lighthearted one that steals your laughs.

It's Friday and I'm actually watching world cup?!
(okay fine I only look up when there's a goal.. I'm growing more uncle. beer and now, soccer...??!?!)

My second time driving

drove to NUS with Jasm & Ying to pick Xin up from work.

I stuck stuff up and and filled up my wall yesterday. It looks a little different from what I had a while ago.

This is to remind myself to stop bumming about aimlessly on the computer, and make some stuff. Got half a can of bright beautiful turquoise blue paint leftover from commcare (more about that another post), and I shall paint my wall soon!!! I think I'll leave that wall rugged, weathered and patchy as it is, and make it more patchy as I continually stick stuff on. I like it that way. I'll paint the wall with my windows then!

The most amazing thing is that there's nothing amazing about it.

Instance 01: Pixar
(Went for it months ago but kept forgetting to pen it down)
I went to the Pixar exhibition at Science Centre half thinking I'll discover some secret behind Pixar's awe-inspiring films, like maybe they have some amazing software that helps, some unique operating procedure or just you know, something. I think people rather credit another's amazingness to something we ourselves simply cannot have, like a high-tech machine than to credit it to our lack of talent.
So I discover no secret, just sketchbookfuls of dedication.
There's study on the varying stiffness of fur that runs down Sulley's back (Monsters Inc.), study on how the green leaves yellow (A bug's life).. and so on. Amazing films came out of not-so-amazing hard work and colour studies, basics animation students learn.

Instance 02: Will
I recall Ps Jeff talking about a Hope lady who decided to fly all the way to the other side of the globe- Chile, to build God's church. And when you talk to such "dedicated and devoted" Christians, out there planting churches, you half-expect to hear amazing stories of God speaking His plans into their lives through... thundering clouds and an audible voice... but it's the ordinariness of their stories... with a heart for a world bigger than their own, that amazes people.

Instance 03: Design
We tend to idealise the unfamiliar. This certain image of someone we look up to forms easily in our mind. We think s/he's a person who's like that, who probably will/will not do this etc. Then when we see such people and speak to them, that image in our head comes crumbling down, much to our relief. And we find them very... human. Nothing very amazing, but such very amazing work that comes out from them, with the very same software suite sitting on my Dock, and tools spread on my desk.

Maybe we can be amazing too ;-)

I'm in a happy state of mind, had a good night at Sessions.

A bunch of design people, professional or not, gathered together to discuss everyone's fav issue, the issue of money. And ended off with the conclusion that - if you work just for money, you shouldn't be in this trade. People are fueled by passion, a love for this craft, and how your work is "an extension of yourself". (Makes it feel almost like social work! hahaha)

I just feel lucky to be in the creative industry, playing my little role.
Happy that these experienced people are paving a path for us to trek on and discover things on our own. Happy that they are so approachable and generous to share.

Random learnings: Don't ever lower the set price you've put to your work because it lowers yr value and worth as a designer/ Guestimation & Gut feeling are keys to quotation, LOL/ Charge according to the pain that the work brings you/ When client cannot fulfill XX cash quote from you, look for other modes of payment, so long as everyone is happy & respected/ When exciting briefs don't generate an image in yr head and tingles yr toes, you're jaded/ Evaluate carefully the creative value and the monetary value of a brief, it's different/ As Y would say: Sometimes, you got to do the things you don't like in order to do the things you like./ "Starving artist" shouldn't be the norm, we shall do good work that pays fine and live comfortably, maybe no lamborghini, yet still very happy!

No one likes fussy people kicking up a fuss.

But lately I learn to appreciate being fussed over.

The older we grow, the less people fuss over us,
we don't need help to eat, pee, travel...

Yesterday for the little grad ceremony,
Pa specially called to get me to leave house earlier in case I get lost driving. He never calls during working hours. Mum was going all like "You're just going to wear that?" *points to black dress*

Reminds me of the night when I finally come back home from HK,
and they were just sitting in the living room in silence with no TV on, just waiting.

Let me learn to appreciate these moments,
even at 7am (<-worst timing) when they love to come in to off my aircon, wake me up and lemme know they're going to work.

Tomorrow I'm supposed to drive them to go meet a friend,
let's hope my car keys don't get confiscated after the ride!

Time to get work done and make sure I don't have to cough up $28000 as compensation.

Today, I woke up bright and early at horrible 730am to realise they needed me for five minutes after travelling for an hour. Freelance people not that free leh. So I popped by school, sat at a corner and tried not to laugh at discussions about shrimps and little floating plants.

Today, Kiappy is very kind, and came to devour designer's pad (yes, that's the name of our canteen) grilled fish and we went to carry heavy things home.

Today, I finished putting away all the TP stuff accumulated from these three years.
And I lost my tertiary ez-link card. -_-

Today is an average day.

But I hope this week will burst with joy and loads of happiness
planning in progress!

Lately it feels I need this.

No doubt I am enjoying going to bed when I'm tired, and waking up when I feel like it,
(this is the greatest form of rest to me) but it's been feeling like there's waves around me and I got to swim harder. There's things to do but there's no urgency.

The silly graduation gown hanging in my room (why they deliver so early??), and the little remorse I feel when I order KFC student meal, and dee! (one sharp painful dee, no more gentle double ones), only remind me that's it, TP has opened its window and threw me into the deep blue sea.

It's exciting.
When phone calls come, when opportunities chance upon me so much my jaw drops at them. When letters in the mail are not merely bills, and can make me happy for quite long a time.

Then it's time to figure out what's really next.

Things come and slip away. Takes time for my horribly idealistic mind to realise that sometimes, no matter how hard I try, there are things that I cannot do, and that trying isn't enough. That letting go and emptying my hands allow for better blessings to come, and my hands won't be too full that I can't reach out and grab them.

Now I sit stumped on a tree stump.

Sunday Times has been featuring them one by one, week after week.

I dated Tommy last night after service.

Needed to pick up some poskads so we were in Chinatown.
And what is Chinatown without a good dinner right.

The hawker girl in me was very much satisfied.
Especially after ah bo ling :D
Though I had a massive hiccup attack afterwards.

We then went walking, so much walking.
To Clark Quay and then Robertson Quay.
So we feel horrible enough "the bath later on is worth it".

So, the good news is that I'm allowed on the road by the authorities, albeit it was a tyco pass, my legs were shaking badly but I had a nice tester!
The bad news is I haven't passed PP - Papa test.
Passing that gives the car keys.

This journey from enrolment into SSDC all the way to now is probably the most painful and expensive journey ever. Because of extreme bad planning & how hard it is to book slots in SSDC previously, it was very frustrating.

I remember all the many times I regret not having a license - like on printing day with Nuo's paper stuck in RJ, and Mum needing to travel after her Op, and never having driven Thoughtless to Ikea, hahaha.

Driving is not fun, but I hope we can go more places after this.

Hi, I'm back from my 2d2n of carpeted living.

I still feel some kind of discomfort thriving in such a massively man-sculpted environment.
I'll choose to trek on some grass and sand any day.

It's as boring as I expected, but I'm glad for the speckled bits of interesting conversations and catch ups with the family. And some little buys from MidValley in KL, ho ho ho. Besides people who get their hands busy "earning" some money, I'm not quite sure what everyone else does on cruise.

Perhaps eat (at posh places) and sleep all day?

Waking up at the most horrible time of the day (to me), 7am, was worth it to catch dawn.

And for nice breakfast with everyone.

My lucky & naughty nephew, Keven, got to spend his sixth birthday in the middle of the sea..
with a cake from the crew.

I shared a cabin with him and his mum & dad.
Putting kids to sleep is as hard as getting them to hush down for a while. Ken and I had to really sneak out for supper one night.

As the start of my attempt to live in the present, less of the future and never in the past, we'll do away with backlogs for now (though there is still the huge Pameran Poskad post I owe this blog), and I'll write about what happened today.

Today I finally started on the freelance job that I have somewhat gotten but not quite.
It feels great to draw again. Feels great that every little stroke is worth some money, hahaha.

There's lots of highlighted folders of photos on the desktop waiting to be blogged,
but lemme start with what's been happening lately.
You would think after major stuff like fyp and grad show, time is on your side, but noooo, okay never mind that for now.

Today was all-the-way-up-to-old-school for MessyMsxi's first solo exhibition.

The work was well worth the climb, and we even got to speak to her, she's so friendly!
She's 5 years our senior, TP-grad too, been through Central St. Martins (*_*).
Her name card tray is piled with name cards, some from big shots that we actually recognise. 0_0

What are we going to do these 5 years man?

After Amanda went off (*wags eyebrows*), we went for grilled chicken and...

NEOPLINTZZZZZ.

Haaaa! The once glamorous neoprint machines have demoted to nothingness lately, and costs $3.

I was very happy, since this suggestion failed on various groups of friends previously, but whoo hoo I did it today!

And we made full use of the lack of customers in the machines.

Would use the tablet to decor in PhotoShop if I am less lazy, but
this is totally cheap thrill. ^^V

We spent the night dreaming at the basement of OC, then running for last trains/buses.
It's good to chillax for a while.

Yesterday's dinner was spent at PastaStylo at Farrer Park's City Square.
Yes I know, don't judge it by its name/erm, design, it really serves good interesting fusion food.
Ate happily with this group of precious people after not catching up for a year -__-

Missing Kar who was burying her face in books.

Our shared memories and old stories re-told and re-laughed at for countless times remind me of how real and tangible the days of serving in pastoral with them are.

We have been watching one another grow old and grow up.
Pete, whom I had a msn convo with when he was twelve, is now going to army.

We ended the night with taking photos with the Zoo Ad at the station.
So super exciting.

So grad show ended, as abruptly and as quietly as it started.
No happy united cheers of "we're done with this shit!", just stuffing everything in big plastic bags and going home.

Thank you dear Huishan, Xin, Pete and Puay, who came all the way to the East just to peer at all our work. Your presence means a lot to me, especially dear Xin who's so happy for me... we've been talking about my grad show for... 5 years?!

Today I got amazed by kind words and people who are interested enough to call me up when I was er, slacking and not at my booth. Met Jessie! (who was in Northeast so very long ago hahaha) who happened to be working at one of the companies who visited today.

I am grateful for the baby steps I am somewhat taking towards somewhere, and I want to remember every one of these steps. For whatever is to come tomorrow, I will be grateful for today and now and stop doing work at 80% effort haaaaa. And yes to you pesky juniors, I was in your shoes before, suan-ing and nitpicking at all the work, soon you will be here and you will understand!

They say "台上一分钟，台下十年功。"
I believe a designer's exhibition is equivalent to an actor/musician's stage performance - both need to capture, entertain and take so much work behind what's seen.

Never mind that my little booth is isolated and flat, decorated with Daiso cheap buys, I am grateful to have people see beyond all of that and come up and say "good job" and even challenge "why is that red?" and just give me and my work some time.

I guess the grad show we envisioned in our minds when we first entered TP, and throughout our time here, anticipating it as a complete ending, turned out very differently, now that not everyone has a space to his/her own.

There's some sort of tinge of disappointment in the air, and not that joyousness of graduation...
And. There's nothing we can do about it, but hope the visitors have eyes big enough to see all the good in every one of us.

J.N: & I always get dragged around by employers looking for new people, to that I will ask them what they need in that student, and try to find a good fit. When they ask "Who is your best student?", I will say - all 78 of them in there.

I guess this week has really taught me, yet again, sometimes things just don't turn out the way we want them to, and persistence doesn't always give fruits. And then it will remind me, God is still in control...

Reminded me of the countless times I read it and held on to it after 'O's.
Now we are at another crossroad... one that seems to have split into so many paths,

Many anxious short-term and hopeful long-term plans linger in my mind,
I need to learn to listen and take it slower.

It's been a great bliss rotting around the house and actually watching TV these few days.
Thank God for little jobs... I think I can fund my own Australia ticket in time to come!

LG - Life's Good

I started this year telling myself I should record down more of the LG's precious moments.
Because of the frequency of weekly meetings, along the way it got mundane and we take it for granted, forgetting it's just as special as many outings we bother to photograph. hahaha.

Last Wed, after feeling completely blessed that a Printer can print 25 000 Easter invites in two days, and save my head from rolling, I went for Alice in Wonderland the movie with the LG.
It's The Movie I've been waiting for since... since I remember gasping that i will be 20 and Puay, 23 when it comes out, so should be quite a few years ago?

Maybe it's that expectation that killed the joy of watching it. It's great, love the colours and mad details, but ya, it feels every frame is so filled and perfected it's not mind blowing anymore, like how if every spread in a book is shouting at you you just shut up? I love what Yanny says about it though "Instead of running away as she [Alice] always did, she took up her responsibilities like a real grown-up. And the irony is that she did it with her childhood faith and courage."

Yes I am easily satisfied and healed by food.

Just came home from supper & a longgg HTHT session with Jasmine Ang & Chng Renying.
It's been a while... since we came clean with what our lives have been revolving about, so exciting, tsk.

As I type this, I give a million thanks for Klan.
It's been years, and we are really all growing up.
From learning how to take bus and the hundreds of 265s we boarded to driving out for supper now.
From "superheroes-gazing" to talking about realistic guys around us HAAAAA.
From fangirling to less screaming to paving out our own aims and paths.
It's a joy... to see one another slowly grasping and finding our way... and staying good friends amidst it all...
Sorry for countless times I pull disappearing acts, & Thank you for staying such true friends.

He sang really well and even sang "God of This City" (by Chris Tomlin) in his own version.
Seeing a celeb shout "Where are the Lord's People?" and then come clean and talk like a church brother, regarding his weak moments and struggles as a Christian - is really encouraging.

It's been a good night.
And a good afternoon with a key sermon about Devotion time...

Lately I learn.
The main point is not to create works that look very finished, equally good as those that's out there, and taking them as references, in all hurry to become a "designer", but -
To find, to feel for, and enjoy the projects we have on hand, immerse and enjoy the different aspects of what we do and to improve in them, taking in different things and growing to be one ...

It's been reflective for me.

Today we tore down all our works, at x100 the speed of how we got them there.

It's been 13 days since submission but today actually felt like we really ended. The sharing with the EEs and the lecturers was worth the travelling. So inspiring listening to them share about the risks they took when they were at our age...

We took away a new kind of hope that things are possible! We can fly though we have no cash! C talked about immersion in work, something I wished I actually do. I am all over the place. Learned about not looking at design references to do good design, but to look everywhere else - very true!

Here's a little post about the horrible period - gathering photos here and there.

There's the many stay-home days with Mum, when she got better and started taking care of me and not the other way round HAHA.

Er, for those curious about my external crit,
it went fine because Mr Lee was not there, (he left midday today so half kena, half never)
and I found out he was at some other school giving a talk, RAWR.

Went to meet dear Ber to support Xin! For her hall performance.
She is vice head for set design leh~ The sets are really quite well done, and I'm not trying to be nice here. I love sets that do more than being there, that work and enhances the performance. Their sets has steps, opens up, moves : )

As for the performance itself, I give no comments... haaaaa. u _ u

Just when I thought the FYP monster has been dealt with and would stop hunting me, here it comes again. This time round in the form of an external critique. 50-50 chance of getting and yes, I am in.

The guy I was about to try my luck and send my measly portfolio to for a tiny internship opening -__-. The guy who just got President's designer award, the highest honour for a designer in our land here.

In 7 hours time, I will be sticking (pinning?) stuff on huge panels alongside everyone who has laboured so hard for this day to happen. Never did I anticipate and fear a Friday so much at the same time.

This is a mental note to myself to have less envy and regretful thoughts even as I see awesome booths all around me. No one understands the torture and pain of fyp like we do and may our hearts be filled with gratitude that we made it through it all and not look elsewhere..!

Today I hobbled around dhoby area with a tote bag, in it is my fat laptop and a few pieces of rolled up precious A2s. I was hugging a stack of pretty Aspire paper and a cutting mat.

Suddenly I remembered one of those motivational workshops in the beginning of sec 3 that the school forced us to go through. I drew myself like this when they asked "what you see yourself as 5 years later".

Everything was quite accurate visually. The feeling, quite different.

Went to the Design Society Conference with YT yesterday morning.
It was a star-studded event, design stars I guess, the people whose work we have admired for quite long a time.

Only managed to stay for the first three speakers because my Supreme Designer > my idol designers. But it was good enough. :Phunk Studio was sooo super funny! I have a newfound respect for them and that brotherly fearless spirit, always saying yes to all sorts of clients even though they knew little. And that has brought them all the way to now, 16 years later. Fav visual rock band indeed ('cause they're the only visual rock band...)!

Realised that 10am Communications did the Orchard Ion campaign (must have earned a lot) and the Speak good mandarin campaign that I always wow at at the stations etc. These creative people always make it sound effortless. Oh, the middle speaker was just very deep, so must think very the hard to understand himzzz.

It's exciting times in Singapore design, they say.
Thank you our "ancestors" who paved and are paving a road easier for us,
if I/we ever do make it.

The Design Society seeks to raise the design literacy of Singaporeans in general. And their 100 icons of Singapore display did fulfill that. We saw so many curious Singaporeans wondering why their fav banks, tiger balm, PAP logos were laid out and printed nicely and stuck on panels at the National Lib.

And I am very proud of YT and her clever pattern that they have printed and embossed on the cover of the bi-annual magazine. I'll keep it and show it to my kids. HAHA.

It was a good morning.

After the worst driving lesson of my life on Monday, I wanted to call and ban that instructor, so I won't ever get him again, since he's so discouraging and all > : ( Then after battling with myself yesterday, I decided to leave it to chance, like if I ban him I will feel as though there's a hurdle I cannot overcome HAHAHA and today sure enough and suay enough, I got him and he said I drove much better. So I went to school today with nothing new, just smiling sheepishly at J.N, passed some gerberas to xiao xinyi for her birthday and didn't sneak Famous Amos cookies off the bag I got for her, 0 : )

YT and I finally caught Avatar when many had watched it several times.

Terrifyingly good in its dedication and breakthrough in film technology,
but terrifying freaky in character design and ~~monster~~ creature design, oh my goodness.

I love the night scenes, the delightful purplish glow and how the ground lights up at every step the Na'vi people made. Love the amazing skies, and the floating mountains. (which is totally not the point of the film, but still..)

Was reading more about it and LOL-ed at "For the love story between characters Jake and Neytiri, Cameron applied a star-crossed love theme, and acknowledged its similarity to the pairing of Jack and Rose from his film Titanic." HAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

Today is the start of a new week.
Today is what I'll call a peanutbutterjelly sandwich day, some bits of rough peanutbutter that's hard to swallow, some smooth chirpy jelly parts, and that very mundaneness of bread.

I saw this sign outside my neighbour's house.
I chuckled a little at it, considering she's your typical friendly malay lady that lives a floor above. I met her at the busstop recently and she went, "wah girl ah, so big already!"

My peanut butter is actually just a very bad driving lesson.
I've never had an angrier driving lesson. It's that kind of lesson that after you get off that Driver's seat you wonder if you will ever sit in it again, just felt so lousy.
And it makes me feel that rage driving is more dangerous than drink driving. I was harbouring evil thoughts of crashing the car, and I almost did, but that one is my inadequacy issue. hahaha.

Jelly came not too cheap.

Yes, I know I haven't been much of an iPhone fan, but my track record in 2009 with phones (broken LCD x 2, lost phones x 2, corroded phone in 2 weeks) made me so exasperated I turned to... Apple. HAHAHA. Ok, excuse. Let's just hope my iPhone keeps healthy and strong.
There is this magic about unboxing Apple products. 8) Try it.
Yes, I also know that there's rumours that iPhone 4g (or whatever it will be called) will be out some time this year. One die-hard on a forum puts it very well, something like "then we don't have to go through that antagonizing feeling of seeing the new updated product that makes our current one look like an old hat". It's okay, having a macbook trained me, haha.

Okay geek talk aside,
the impromptu supper session with Esther Chan my neighbour! was also very fun.
The two losers with no licenses bused out in the middle of the night for tauhuay and an hour ++ of catch up. Hey, I've known you for... eleven years and counting..!

The bread part must be all the chores.
I think I'm ready to live overseas, I always say that when the need arises I will learn, and the need arose and I can now wash clothes, cook rice, and clean! Let's leave cooking veggie and dishes to another time ok.

Today my dear shepherd came to the now-happening Northpoint and we enjoyed Swensen's one-for-one lunch deal & stickychewychocolate and a bit of shoe shopping. Oh what bliss to not have to open .ai just a day in my life.

We survived yet another one,
just the final submission and we are free birds.

Yesterday I lugged my huge bag of (expensive) printed matter around town, east and finally the northeast for LG. We had an interesting one at YK's, complete with being like fish and eating a lot of small bites of bread.

Talking about fish,
we went to Hooked at Thomson, a fish place, for Joanne's birthday.

See, them trying to be fishy.

She's as usual, the first in the clique to turn older and we are all not looking forward to turning twenty.

No more small candles.

We had Makkies's sticky chewy cakie!
Self made roasted marshmallow pizza,
awesome man.

Oh yes, we spent the rest of the night at Icekimo talking about mature topics, like worrying for guy friends and prostitution. HAHAHA. Seriously, we never had such worries a few years back.

This same gang was at Pang's butter's bbq on New Year's day.
(Pang why is he called butter...)
We did nothing, played mahjong and ate roasted marshmallows, my favest bbq item.

"More than anything....we! are! yours!..." keeps echoing in my head.
Today has been a refreshing Saturday..
Setting the pace right for the year with Sharon, Ruying & Shixin plus the new volunteers..
Reminders like how God's grace and joy can be our strength,
how we cannot give something to God that costs nothing.....

& most of all...
just uplifting to my defeated spirit. hahaha.

At 11pm yesternight, two lovely northeasters- Faith and Cong visited ulu Chong Pang and Carmen gave us all a ride home. It eased my pressure a bit, thank you.

Lately, it's really very tough...
you know that feeling when you don't exactly feel your work...?
I am sorry for all the times I skipped through grad shows and wondered why the exhibited work is not more well done.
I know your pain now, seniors.

I am on the verge of buying an iPhone because it seems that all the new models of hp are just copying the iPhone. I love my Touch, so I should love the iPhone + data plan, just that I know I gonna have lots of trouble with the touch screen keypad.

Any other phone models to recommend? :(
The only Aino I wanted has a glitch and seems to have disappeared off SE's site.
